Tribute 3D Profile ARF

Bulletins

When installing motors into the E-flite gearbox, it is very important that your gear mesh is correct and the gear’s mesh is smooth with no binding. The E-flite gearbox features an adjustable slotted mounting hole so that you can make sure your gear mesh is correct. Remember, if your mesh is to loose, it may strip the gears. One suggestion may be to insert the polybag included with the motor or a small piece of paper in between the pinion and spur gear as you are installing them. Tighten and secure the screws to the gearbox. Always make sure the screws are long enough so they have properly seated into the motor. You can easily pull the polybag or paper out by rotating the shaft until it comes out. To extend the life of your gearbox, we recommend using a small amount of grease, such as lithium grease, on the spur gear.

If you are using our E-flite Park 370 or Park 400 brushless motors, you may wish to first trial fit your adaptor plate to your gearbox before attaching the motor in order to check that the screws engage nearly all of the threads without sticking through the backside. To prevent the adaptor plate from moving, we do not recommend using lock washers with these plastic gearboxes.

NOTE: Early versions of the E-flite Park series motor included two M3 x 4mm screws and lock washers. DO NOT USE THE LOCK WASHER. The M3 x 4mm screws used with lock or flat washers are too short to engage enough threads to attach the gearbox to the adaptor plate.

1. Install the adaptor plate provided onto the motor using the supplied flat head machine screws.
2. Attach the motor with adaptor plate into the gearbox using the supplied M3 x 5mm (or M3 x 4mm – see above) screws.
3. Make sure the gear mesh is correct with no binding.
4. Securely tighten the M3 screws to the adaptor plate. If a secure fit is not made, the motor with adaptor plate can loosen and separate from the gearbox causing failure and potential damage to your airplane

NOTE: If your E-flite Park series brushless motor includes M3 x 5mm screws and flat washers (not lock washers), it is acceptable to use the flat washer in this application as long as the screws are 5mm and your trial fit confirms they are threaded in position and secure.

Detailed Information

George Hicks, aerodynamicist and designer of the Tribute, says:

"The real innovation is that the Tribute is the first 3D aerobatic electric airplane properly sized for today’s micro RC equipment and the foamy that started the indoor 3D craze. Most electric designs simply weighed too much and were grossly underpowered. The concept of using thin flat foam with embedded composite stiffeners is the best possible solution for strength, durability and, most importantly, low Reynolds number aerodynamics."
