E-flite DHC-6 Twin Otter 1.4m RC Airplane Introduction
The DHC-6 Twin Otter was developed by de Havilland Canada in 1965. Designed as a rugged STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) commuter aircraft, the Twin Otter carried passengers and cargo into harsh environments such as the sub-zero Antarctic and scorching North African desert. For 60 years, the Twin Otter has stood alone as the most reliable and versatile aircraft in its class! The E-flite Twin Otter 1.4m is a scale replica that makes the perfect first twin-powered model for intermediate to experienced RC pilots. It's versatile, easy to fly, and is equipped with functional features including LED navigation and landing lights, flaps, and mounting hardware for optional floats. The BNF Basic version is also equipped with enhanced AS3X+ technology that smooths out the effects of wind and turbulence better than ever before. Plus, it features optional-use SAFE Select technology that makes it even easier to fly — along with differential thrust and motor reversing for special ground handling and other capabilities! Both versions include Spektrum servos, a Dual Smart Lite ESC, plus 3S and 4S compatible motors.
E-flite DHC-6 Twin Otter 1.4m RC Airplane Overview
For RC pilots who want a great first – or next – twin model, there's no better choice than the E-flite Twin Otter 1.4m. It delivers exciting scale looks and amazing flight performance, along with the inherent stability of a high-wing design. The larger than 1.2m but still convenient size means you can transport it fully assembled for flying at a wide variety of locations with paved, grass, or packed dirt surfaces, such as large parks, sports fields, and RC flying fields. Your adventures won't stop there, though — remove the landing gear, install the optional floats also used for popular Timber 1.2m and 1.5m models (sold separately or in a money-saving combo), and now you're ready to fly at large ponds and small lakes!
Along with molded-in panel lines, corrugated control surfaces, and a modern-day scale trim scheme, the E-flite Twin Otter 1.4m comes with many functional features including operational flaps, LED navigation and landing lights, plus counter-rotating props finished with black and white stripes that look awesome whether spinning or standing still. The factory-installed servos, including a more durable metal-geared servo for the nose gear steering, provide precise and reliable control at every speed. Both versions feature a power system with Spektrum outrunner motors and an Avian 25-amp Dual Smart Lite ESC that are compatible with popular 3S and 4S 2200-3200mAh batteries. The BNF Basic version is also equipped with a factory-installed Spektrum AR631+ receiver featuring exclusive and enhanced AS3X+ along with optional-use SAFE Select technologies. It also features standard differential thrust and optional-use motor reversing for special ground handling and other capabilities. It all adds up so the Twin Otter 1.4m offers a truly unique flying experience that a wide range of pilots can appreciate and enjoy!

Skill Level 2 – Some Experience Required
Skill Level 2 aircraft, like this one, are suitable for RC pilots who already have some experience and the skills to assemble, set up, and fly similar class models. You should have the experience and skills necessary to successfully fly models like the E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.1m, Valiant 1.3m, Commander mPd 1.4m, Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5m, or other similar class models before attempting to fly the Twin Otter 1.4m BNF Basic version.

Exclusive Technologies
The BNF Basic version Twin Otter 1.4m is equipped with exclusive Spektrum AS3X+ and SAFE Select technologies. Enhanced AS3X+ technology works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence and deliver an even more locked-in feel than standard AS3X, which makes it seem like you're flying a much larger airplane. Optional-use SAFE Select offers pitch and bank angle limits and automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch! If you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, simply bind the receiver normally, and only AS3X+ will be active.

Bind-N-Fly® Completion Level Advantage
Already own a Spektrum™ transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) aircraft make getting into the air quickly and with the best control experience possible easier than ever. They come out of the box with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly, and fly!

Smart Technology
The Twin Otter 1.4m is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum Avian Dual Smart Lite ESC that can provide a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, battery voltage and more – with Smart and non-Smart batteries – via compatible receivers (including the AR631+) and Spektrum AirWare equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6 to 20, iX12 to 20 and others) while you fly. Plus, the receiver is loaded with a Smart Transmitter Model File that allows you to import all settings for NX and iX series transmitters during the binding process.

Uniquely Capable
Differential thrust and optional-use motor/thrust reversing (standard on the BNF Basic version; Smart-compatible receiver required for the PNP version) offer improved ground handling for easier taxiing, takeoffs and landings, along with the ability to perform special aerobatic maneuvers. Both features are also extremely helpful when flying from water using the optional floats that are sold separately or in a money-saving combo (the same floats also used for popular Timber 1.2m and 1.5m models).

3S and 4S Compatible
The factory-installed twin brushless power system features a 25-amp Spektrum Avian Dual Smart Lite ESC plus specially-tuned motors that deliver an abundance of thrust with a single 3S 2200–3200mAh LiPo battery. Or you can install a 4S battery for even more power and unlimited vertical capability without needing any modifications or upgrades!

Scale Features
The Twin Otter 1.4m features an abundance of scale detail including molded-in panel lines, corrugated control surfaces, windshield wipers, handles, antennas, and more. It also features operational flaps to deliver improved slow flight handling and shorter takeoffs and landings. Plus, factory-installed LED lighting, including navigation and landing lights, add to the scale realism and authenticity.

Easy Assembly
No glue or specials tools are required for final assembly so you can have the Twin Otter 1.4m ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery! And although it's conveniently sized to fit fully assembled in almost any vehicle, you can remove the two-piece wing with hands-free connections for easier storage and transport.

More Durable
The lightweight yet durable EPO airframe is composite reinforced for added strength. It features a stronger and easier to repair/service nose wheel along with a more durable digital and metal-geared servo for steering/rudder control.
This Bind-N-Fly Basic model is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver featuring AS3X+ (Artificial Stabilization–3-aXis+) technology that works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence. The result is a heightened sense of stability and precision that makes you feel like you're flying a much larger, expertly tuned aircraft.
If this is your first model of its type, or you want an extra margin of safety while familiarizing yourself with the airplane, you can enable the optional-use SAFE® Select flight envelope protection technology built into the receiver. No programming is required. Simply change up the binding sequence as directed in the manual.
With SAFE Select enabled, you get:
Pitch and Bank Angle Limits
- These envelope limits keep the airplane from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles.
Automatic Self-Leveling
- The airplane instantly returns to and holds level flight when the sticks are released and in the center position. It's also helpful for keeping the wings level during takeoffs/launches and landings.
Easy Switch Assignment—No Complex Programming Required
- The simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds.
If you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X+ receiver.
